Modern Canton Cookware Booklet

Kitch is a fictional cookware company that creates publications geared toward the usage of everyday kitchenware utensils. Modern Canton invites you to step into a familiar realm and entice your kitchen with some cookware distinct and essential to most Asian households — learn the different types of food you can create for yourself and the entire family!

Sketches & Rough Draft

Creating sketches saved time by knowing how specific material should be photographed. Themes of Cantonese inspirations, culture, and feelings of being in a family setting were my desired outcome. Although photo organization is easy to imagine in sketches, the real test was how my contact sheet would fall into place with the conceived layout; I envisioned each spread to be utilized to create flow.

Revisions

Taking away the images to allow the page numbers to be exposed made me realize that sometimes less is more. There were a lot more photos to include and having to carefully choose which to add was important. After compiling all my word content and photos into something more appropriate for spreads, I found myself tying together the theme of family and eating together last. Through imagery and cookware alone, storytelling was also created.

Result

Through this design, the organization of usable photos and imagery to further hint and explore items was learned. Continuity can be seen throughout each spread, font pairing worked out in the end as the text became more legible. Creating this booklet helped me realize how to work with what was presented in front of me and transform it into a unique and harmonious representation of what was trying to achieve. Creative concepts and storytelling increase curiosity in design.
